Thank you for joining us and we hope these timeless truths will strengthen you for whatever you face in the coming day.
And so we begin with Confession
Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.
Hear the Word of God to all who truly turn to him.
If anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
Cranmer’s fourth homily warns of the perils of false faith
Now, for as much as he that believes in Christ has everlasting life, it must need consequently follow that he that has this faith must also have good works, and be studious to observe the commandments obediently. For to him that has evil works and leads their life in disobedience and transgression (or breaking) of God's commandments without repentance, pertains not everlasting life, but everlasting death as, Christ himself said. “They that do well should go into life eternal, but they that do evil should go into everlasting fire.”
Accordingly our bible reading is from Revelation Chapter 21 beginning at verse 5
And he who was seated on the throne said, “Behold, I am making all things new.” Also he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.” 6 And he said to me, “It is done! I am the Alpha and the Omega, the beginning and the end. To the thirsty I will give from the spring of the water of life without payment. 7 The one who conquers will have this heritage, and I will be his God and he will be my son. 8 But as for the cowardly, the faithless, the detestable, as for murderers, the sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars, their portion will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulphur, which is the second death.”

The Apostles Creed
I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

Our Father in Heaven
Hallowed be your name
Your kingdom come
Your will be done
On earth as it is in heaven
Give us today our daily bread
And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us
Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from the evil one

Today’s collect
O God, who on this day taught the hearts of your faithful people by sending to them the light of your Holy Spirit: Grant us by the same Spirit to have a right judgment in all things, and evermore to rejoice in his holy comfort; through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen
Go before us, O Lord, in all our doings with your most gracious favour, and further us with your continual help; that in all our works begun, continued, and ended in you, we may glorify your holy Name, and finally, through your mercy, obtain everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Final Words
Glory to God whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine: Glory to him from generation to generation in the Church, and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever. Amen

But first, we begin with Confession
Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against your holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought not to have done; and apart from your grace, there is no health in us. O Lord, have mercy upon us. Spare all those who confess their faults. Restore all those who are penitent, according to your promises declared to all people in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may now live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of your holy Name. Amen
Hear the Word of God to all who truly turn to him.
God so loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
And so we continue reading from Cranmer’s fourth homily,
And of charity, St John says these words, “He that keeps God’s word or commandment in him is truly the perfect love of God.” And again he says, “This is the love of God, that we should keep his commandments. And Saint John did not write this as a subtle thing, devised of his own fantasy, but as a most certain and necessary truth, taught to him by Christ himself, the eternal and infallible truth, who in many places does most clearly affirm that faith, hope and charity cannot consist (or stand) without good and godly works.
Of faith he says, “He that believes in the Son has everlasting life, but he that believes not in the Son shall not see that life, but the wrath of God remains upon him.” And the same he confirmed with a double oath, saying “Forsooth and forsooth I say to you, he that believes in me has everlasting life.”
Which is why we turn now to John chapter 6, beginning at verse 41
So the Jews grumbled about him, because he said, “I am the bread that came down from heaven.” 42 They said, “Is not this Jesus, the son of Joseph, whose father and mother we know? How does he now say, ‘I have come down from heaven’?” 43 Jesus answered them, “Do not grumble among yourselves. 44 No one can come to me unless the Father who sent me draws him. And I will raise him up on the last day. 45 It is written in the Prophets, ‘And they will all be taught by God.’ Everyone who has heard and learned from the Father comes to me— 46 not that anyone has seen the Father except he who is from God; he has seen the Father. 47 Truly, truly, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. 48 I am the bread of life.

Amen.

Final Words
Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip us with everything good that we may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

We begin with Confession
Almighty and everlasting God, you hate nothing you have made, and you forgive the sins of all who are penitent: Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of you, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen
Hear the Word of God to all who truly turn to him.
Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
And so, we turn to Cranmer’s fourth homily, where we read
And yet further, he says, “Every man that believes that Jesus Christ is born of God”, and “We know that whoever is born of God does not sin, but the generation of God purges him, and the devil does not touch him.” And finally he concludes, by showing why he wrote the epistle, saying, “For this cause have I thus written unto you, that you may know that you have everlasting life, which we do believe in the Son of God.” And in his third epistle he confirmed the whole matter of faith and works in few words, saying “He that does well is of God and he that does evil knows not God.” And as St John says that the lively knowledge and faith of God brings forth good works, so says he likewise of hope and charity, that they cannot stand with evil living. Of hope he writes this, “We know that when God shall appear, we shall be like him, for we shall see him even as He is. And whoever has this hope in Him does purify himself, like God is pure.”
Therefore our bible reading is from 1 John chapter 3 beginning at verse 1
See what kind of love the Father has given to us, that we should be called children of God; and so we are. The reason why the world does not know us is that it did not know him. 2 Beloved, we are God's children now, and what we will be has not yet appeared; but we know that when he appears[a] we shall be like him, because we shall see him as he is. 3 And everyone who thus hopes in him purifies himself as he is pure.
4 Everyone who makes a practice of sinning also practices lawlessness; sin is lawlessness. 5 You know that he appeared in order to take away sins, and in him there is no sin.
This is the word of the Lord
The Nicene Creed
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen

The saying is trustworthy and deserving of full acceptance, that Christ Jesus came into the world to save sinners.
Our reading from Cranmer’s fourth homily considers the need to examine our lives
All holy Scripture agrees and bears witness that a true lively faith in Christ brings forth good works, and therefore every man must examine, and try himself diligently to know whether he has the same true lively faith in his heart, unfeignedly or not; which he shall know by the fruits of it. Many that profess the faith of Christ were in this error - that they thought they knew God and believed in Him when in their life they declared the contrary. Which error St. John in his first epistle writes in this way, “hereby we are certified that we know God, if we observe his commandments. He that says he knows God and observes not his commands is a liar and the truth is not in him.” And again, he says, “Whoever sins does not see God, nor know him. Let no man deceive you, well beloved children.”
And so Cranmer points us to 1 John Chapter 3, beginning at verse 19
This is how we know that we belong to the truth and how we set our hearts at rest in his presence: 20 If our hearts condemn us, we know that God is greater than our hearts, and he knows everything. 21 Dear friends, if our hearts do not condemn us, we have confidence before God 22 and receive from him anything we ask, because we keep his commands and do what pleases him. 23 And this is his command: to believe in the name of his Son, Jesus Christ, and to love one another as he commanded us. 24 The one who keeps God’s commands lives in him, and he in them. And this is how we know that he lives in us: We know it by the Spirit he gave us.

Final Words
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit, be with us all evermore. Amen

Grant to your faithful people, merciful Lord, pardon and peace; that we may be cleansed from all our sins, and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Today we continue in Cranmer’s fourth homily, where we read
But now, by the coming of our Saviour Christ, we have received more abundantly the Spirit of God in our hearts, whereby we may conceive a greater faith and a surer trust than many of them had. But in effect, they and we be all one. We have the faith that they had in God and they the same that we have. And Saint Paul so much extolled their faith, because we should be no less, but rather give ourselves more wholly unto Christ, both in profession and living, now that Christ has come, than the old fathers did before his coming. And by all the declaration of Saint Paul, it is evident that the true, lively and Christian faith, is no dead, vain, or unfruitful thing. But a thing of perfect virtue, of wonderful operation (or working) and strength, bringing forth all good motions and good works.
Thus, today’s bible reading is from 1 Peter chapter 1, beginning at verse 10
Concerning this salvation, the prophets who prophesied about the grace that was to be yours searched and inquired carefully, 11 inquiring what person or time[a] the Spirit of Christ in them was indicating when he predicted the sufferings of Christ and the subsequent glories. 12 It was revealed to them that they were serving not themselves but you, in the things that have now been announced to you through those who preached the good news to you by the Holy Spirit sent from heaven, things into which angels long to look.13 Therefore, preparing your minds for action,[b] and being sober-minded, set your hope fully on the grace that will be brought to you at the revelation of Jesus Christ.

Hear the Word of God to all who truly turn to him.
If anyone sins, we have an advocate with the Father, Jesus Christ the righteous. He is the propitiation for our sins, and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.
Cranmer’s fourth homily explains how our faith and the faith of those who lived before Christ’s coming is one and the same.
All these fathers, martyrs, and other holy man whom Saint Paul spoke of, had their faith, surely fixed in God when all the world was against them. They did not only know God to be the Lord, Maker and Governor of all men in the world. But also they had special confidence and trust that he was and would be their good, their comforter, aider, helper, maintainer and defender. This is the Christian faith which these holy men had, and we also also ought to have. And although they were not named Christian men, yet it was a Christian faith that they had. They looked for all the benefits of God the Father through the merits of His Son Jesus Christ, as we now do. This difference is between them and us, for they looked when Christ should come, and we be in the time when he has come. Therefore, said Saint Augustine, “The time is altered and changed, but not the faith, for we both have one faith in Christ.” The same Holy Ghost also that we have, had they, said Saint Paul. For us the Holy Ghost does teach us to trust in God and to call upon him as our faither, did he teach them to say, as it is written, “Thou Lord art our Father and redeemer and thy name is without beginning and everlasting.” God gave them grace then to be his children, as He does to us now.
Accordingly, our bible reading is from Ephesians chapter 3 beginning at verse 14
For this reason I bow my knees before the Father, 15 from whom every family in heaven and on earth is named, 16 that according to the riches of his glory he may grant you to be strengthened with power through his Spirit in your inner being, 17 so that Christ may dwell in your hearts through faith—that you, being rooted and grounded in love, 18 may have strength to comprehend with all the saints what is the breadth and length and height and depth, 19 and to know the love of Christ that surpasses knowledge, that you may be filled with all the fullness of God.

I believe in God, the Father almighty, creator of heaven and earth. I believe in Jesus Christ, his only Son, our Lord. He was conceived by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary. He suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, died, and was buried. He descended to the dead. On the third day he rose again. He ascended into heaven, and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again to judge the living and the dead. I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic Church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, the resurrection of the body, and the life everlasting. Amen

On earth as it is in heaven
Give us today our daily bread

O God, the King of glory, you have exalted your only Son Jesus Christ with great triumph to your kingdom in heaven: Do not leave us comfortless, but send us your Holy Spirit to strengthen us, and exalt us to that place where our Savior Christ has gone before; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, in glory everlasting. Amen.
Go before us, O Lord, in all our doings with your most gracious favour, and further us with your continual help; that in all our works begun, continued, and ended in you, we may glorify your holy Name, and finally, through your mercy, obtain everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen
Final Words
Glory to God whose power, working in us, can do infinitely more than we can ask or imagine: Glory to him from generation to generation in the Church, and in Christ Jesus for ever and ever. Amen

Almighty and most merciful Father, we have erred and strayed from your ways like lost sheep. We have followed too much the devices and desires of our own hearts. We have offended against your holy laws. We have left undone those things which we ought to have done, and we have done those things which we ought not to have done; and apart from your grace, there is no health in us. O Lord, have mercy upon us. Spare all those who confess their faults. Restore all those who are penitent, according to your promises declared to all people in Christ Jesus our Lord. And grant, O most merciful Father, for his sake, that we may now live a godly, righteous, and sober life, to the glory of your holy Name. Amen

God so loved the world, that he gave his only-begotten Son, that whoever believes in him should not perish but have eternal life. (John 3:16)
And so we continue reading from Cranmer’s fourth homily,
By faith the children of Israel passed through the Red Sea. By faith the walls of Jericho fell down without a stroke, and many other wonderful miracles have wrought. In all good men that have lived before, faith has brought forth their good works and obtained the promises of God. Faith has stopped the lion's mouth. Faith has quenched the force of fire. Faith has escaped the sword’s edges. Faith has given weak men strength, victory in battle, overthrown the armies of infidels, raised the dead to life. Faith has made good men to take adversity in good part. Some been mocked and whipped, bound and cast in prison. Some have lost all their goods and lived in great poverty. Some have wandered in mountains, hills, and wilderness. Some have been racked, some slain, some stoned, some sawn, some rent in pieces, some beheaded, some burnt without mercy and would not be delivered because they looked to rise again to a better state.
Which is why we turn now to Hebrews chapter 12, beginning at verse 1
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God. 3 Consider him who endured from sinners such hostility against himself, so that you may not grow weary or fainthearted.

Almighty God, you have not dealt with us according to our sins, nor rewarded us according to our iniquities; grant that we, who for our evil deeds deserve to be punished, by the might of your grace may mercifully be relieved; through our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen.

Final Words
Now may the God of peace who brought again from the dead our Lord Jesus, the great shepherd of the sheep, by the blood of the eternal covenant, equip us with everything good that we may do his will, working in us that which is pleasing in his sight, through Jesus Christ, to whom be glory forever and ever. Amen.

We begin with Confession
Almighty and everlasting God, you hate nothing you have made, and you forgive the sins of all who are penitent: Create and make in us new and contrite hearts, that we, worthily lamenting our sins and acknowledging our wretchedness, may obtain of you, the God of all mercy, perfect remission and forgiveness; through Jesus Christ our Lord; who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen
Hear the Word of God to all who truly turn to him.
Come to me, all who labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28
And so, we turn to Cranmer’s fourth homily, where we read
This faith wrought so in the heart of Moses that he refused to be taken for the son of King Pharaoh’s daughter, and have a great inheritance in Egypt - thinking it better to be counted with the people of God, to have affliction and sorrow, than live pleasantly in sin for a time with naughty men. By faith, he cared not for the threats of king Pharaoh – for his trust was so in God that he did not live for the felicity of this world, but looked for the reward to come in heaven, setting his heart on the invisible God, as if he had seen him ever present before his eyes.
Therefore our bible reading is from Hebrews chapter 11 beginning at verse 23
By faith Moses, when he was born, was hidden for three months by his parents, because they saw that the child was beautiful, and they were not afraid of the king's edict. 24 By faith Moses, when he was grown up, refused to be called the son of Pharaoh's daughter, 25 choosing rather to be mistreated with the people of God than to enjoy the fleeting pleasures of sin. 26 He considered the reproach of Christ greater wealth than the treasures of Egypt, for he was looking to the reward. 27 By faith he left Egypt, not being afraid of the anger of the king, for he endured as seeing him who is invisible. 28 By faith he kept the Passover and sprinkled the blood, so that the Destroyer of the firstborn might not touch them.

The Nicene Creed
We believe in one God, the Father, the Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, of all that is, visible and invisible.
We believe in one Lord, Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, eternally begotten of the Father,
God from God, Light from Light, true God from true God, begotten, not made, of one Being with the Father; through him all things were made.
For us and for our salvation he came down from heaven, was incarnate from the Holy Spirit and the Virgin Mary, and was made man. For our sake he was crucified under Pontius Pilate; he suffered death and was buried.
On the third day he rose again in accordance with the Scriptures; he ascended into heaven and is seated at the right hand of the Father. He will come again in glory to judge the living and the dead, and his kingdom will have no end.
We believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord, the giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son who with the Father and the Son is worshiped and glorified, who has spoken through the prophets.
We believe in one holy catholic and apostolic Church. We acknowledge one Baptism for the forgiveness of sins. We look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen
