Hello and Welcome to “In All Our Doings”

Simply confession, Cranmer, a creed and collects. brought to you daily by Anglican Futures. 

Thank you for joining us and we hope these timeless truths will strengthen you for whatever you face in the coming day.

And so we begin with Confession

Most merciful God, we confess that we have sinned against you in thought, word, and deed, by what we have done, and by what we have left undone. We have not loved you with our whole heart; we have not loved our neighbours as ourselves. We are truly sorry and we humbly repent. For the sake of your Son Jesus Christ, have mercy on us and forgive us; that we may delight in your will, and walk in your ways, to the glory of your Name. Amen.

Grant to your faithful people, merciful Lord, pardon and peace; that we may be cleansed from all our sins, and serve you with a quiet mind; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Cranmer’s third homily reminds us that even our faith is given to us by Christ

Saint John the Baptist, although he was an ever so virtuous and godly man, yet in this matter of forgiving sin, he put the people from him, and pointed them to Christ, saying, “Behold, the Lamb of God, which takes away the sins of the world.” In the same way, as great and as godly a virtue the lively faith is, yet it puts us from itself, and remits, or points us to Christ, because it is only by Him that we have the remission of our sins or justification. So that our faith in Christ as it were, says to us, “It is not I that take away your sins, but it is Christ only, and to Him only I send you for that purpose, forsaking all your good virtues, words, thoughts and works, and only putting your trust in Christ.”

And so we turn in our bibles to John Chapter 1, verse 29

The next day John saw Jesus coming toward him and said, “Look, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world! ³⁰ This is the one I meant when I said, ‘A man who comes after me has surpassed me because he was before me.’ ³¹ I myself did not know him, but the reason I came baptizing with water was that he might be revealed to Israel.”

³² Then John gave this testimony: “I saw the Spirit come down from heaven as a dove and remain on him. ³³ And I myself did not know him, but the one who sent me to baptize with water told me, ‘The man on whom you see the Spirit come down and remain is the one who will baptize with the Holy Spirit.’ ³⁴ I have seen and I testify that this is God’s Chosen One.

This is the word of the Lord

Let us pray

Our Father in Heaven

Hallowed be your name

Your kingdom come

Your will be done

On earth as it is in heaven

Give us today our daily bread

And forgive us our sins as we forgive those who sin against us

Save us from the time of trial and deliver us from the evil one

For the kingdom the power and the glory are yours now and forever Amen

 

Collect for today

Almighty God, you gave your only Son to be for us both a sacrifice for sin and an example of godly living: Give us grace thankfully to receive his inestimable benefits, and daily to follow the blessed steps of his most holy life; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, for ever and ever. Amen

Go before us, O Lord, in all our doings with your most gracious favour, and further us with your continual help; that in all our works begun, continued, and ended in you, we may glorify your holy Name, and finally, through your mercy, obtain everlasting life; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen

Final Words

May the God of hope fill us with all joy and peace in believing through the power of the Holy Spirit. Amen.
